Established in 1881, the Dallas Police Department has been the principal law enforcement agency serving and protecting the city of Dallas. DPD has many resources available to serve the people of Dallas such as the Air Unit, SWAT, and other subdivisions that work hard to maintain peace and to protect the people. The department offers many subdivisions that work together in stopping crime and/or preventing it. Some of the subdivisions that DPD has are traffic services that specialize in traffic-related things to SWAT which handles high priority situations that cannot be handled by traditional law enforcement. The department also works closely with nearby law enforcement agencies such as the Dallas County Sheriffs Office and the Texas State Troopers to protect the public and maintain order. However, the main goal of every Dallas Police Officer is to serve their community the best they can.
